Church of England opens cathedral to tarot card readers and crystal healers

Imagine that. A "new age" festival is to be held in the Manchester Cathedral in England. Traditionalists are up in arms about the "invasion of hallowed ground" triggering a mini wave of overly sensitive Christians to defect to—where else—the Roman Catholic Church. The whole incident is eerily reminiscent of the defection after the ordination of gay men and women priests by the Anglicans.

Hmm.. Progressive ideas, Anglican? Not ready… Catholic? Both churches do face declining attendance as pews grew emptier and emptier. The Bishop of Manchester, Right Reverend Nigel McCullough is most progressive, it seems, and embraces "all forms of spirituality."

Bishop Nigel went on to insist that tarot readings and other activities "are not incompatible with Christian Belief"

'The event is a chance to discover and explore old and new Christian spiritual traditions from living in a community to praying with icons, from healing to bead-making, from Franciscan spirituality to contemporary music and movement," said the Bishop.
